Details

A single cell Lithium Ion battery charger, as you can see it has your choice of a Mini USB or a Micro USB connector for the power input from say an old phone charger, but also has solder points if you want to apply 5v power directly.

Choose which one you want from the drop down…

  • Mini USB - Currently Out Of Stock; or
  • Micro USB

This version does not have the protection circuitry, useful if your cell already is protected.

Board layout may differ slightly from image shown depending on current batch, specs and size the same.

Remember that USB from a computer should not exceed 500mA, so you shouldn't use this module with your computer USB ports unless you modify it to reduce the current as below.

Uses the TP4056 Charge Controller IC featuring

  • Low current charge under 2.9v
  • Soft start
  • Charge completion at 1/10th charge rate (100mA termination default)
  • Two indicator LEDs (charging, charged)

These are great for charging 18650 cells salvaged out of laptops (or Teslas if you have one of those lying around).

Do not connect the battery backwards or all the magic smoke will escape.  Always charge Lithium cells in a suitable (fire-proof) container.

DIY Charge Current Mod

The charger is configured for a 1A max charge rate, but if you want to reduce that rate you can remove one resistor (the small 0603 surface mount one bottom middle edge of the board with USB facing left) and replace with another value,

  • 30k = 50mA
  • 20k = 70mA
  • 10k = 130mA
  • 5k = 250mA
  • 4k = 300mA
  • 3k = 400mA
  • 2k = 580mA
  • 1.66k = 690mA
  • 1.5k = 780mA
  • 1.33k = 900mA
  • 1.2k = 1000mA (default)
