Fixed Output Step Down Converter, Out 5v up to 2.1A Continuous, In 7-28v

Details

This is small buck (step down, output voltage lower than input) DC-DC converter based on the MP1584EN switch mode buck converter IC, you can provide input voltage between 7v and 28v and get output voltage of 5v, this performance has been verified by my tests.

I have performed a range of characterisation tests on these devices please download this PDF for the full test results of the MP1584EN module so you can properly evaluate suitability for your task.

It is highly recommended that you add around a 100uF electrolytic capacitor on the output of these devices for best results.  If you do not use such a capacitor then ripple can be quite high at currents over 1A (up to 5.5v peak).

The actual test-derived specifications are:

• Input Voltage: 7v to 28v (but depends on output voltage and current required, see PDF)
• Output Voltage: 5v
• Max continuous current: 2.1A for input voltage 9v+ (1.5A for input voltage under 7-9v)
• Peak Current: 3A for a few seconds 
• Typical Idle (No-Load) Current: 700uA (Microamps)
• Maximum efficiency tested: 93%
• Typical efficiency tested: 80-90%
