Check this little beauty out, a miniature step down (buck, input higher than output) converter. And when I say miniature, I mean it, check out the picture. 17mm by 11mm and 3.8mm high, they weigh, wait for this... about 1.4 grams.
Based on the MP2307DN switching IC this device will take an input voltage from 4.75 to 23v, and you can turn the adjuster (just a single turn trim pot on these, there's no room for a multi!) to get an output between 1 and 17v. Being a buck converter the output is always less than the input (and headroom required is generally around 1v).
Continuous current 1.8A, peak 3A.
Maximum efficiency 95%. Switching frequency is 340KHz and output ripple 30mV. Output voltage tolerance +/- 2.5%.
