If you have a higher DC voltage, and you need a lower DC voltage, and you want an efficient and incredibly simple way to do it, then this is the part for you!
A small simple adjustable step down (buck converter) module.
Connect an input from 4v to 40v (45v max) on one side, and turn the adjustment screw to get from 1.25v to 30v on the other side (output always lower than input).
Input: 4 to 40v (abs max 45V, input capacitor is 50v)
Output: 1.25 to 30v (output capacitor is 35v)
Maximum output power: 12w without heatsink, 20w if you slap a nice heatsink on the bottom of the board (not included)
Output current: 2 Amp but remember the power limit above, if using a heatsink you can probably push this to 2.5A or 3A peak
Ripple: 30mV
They are pretty high efficiency - varies by the input/output ratio up to around 92% in the best conditions but you are more likely to see around 80 to 84%, still vastly better than a linear regulator!
Note that typically the controller IC on these are marked as LM2596, if that is actually the IC is another question, quite likely it is something else like XL2576 or something.
