The DW01+ monitors the battery voltage for over voltage, under voltage, and over discharge current and uses the Mosfet to disable charging or discharging appropriately.
The datasheet for the DW01 has the application circuit, pay careful attention to where each ground is connecting.
A trap for young players is to remember that when you connect a battery you may need to then, at least momentarily, connect a charger to “wake up” the protection circuit so it will allow you to discharge (power your device).
