This is a surface mount (8 pin) SPI driven Digital Potentiometer, the MCP41010
10k Nominal Resistance (+-/ 20%)
Using this pot with an Arduino is a doddle using the following library (wiring instructions included):
github.com
Once you have the SPI lines connected and can command the potentiometer with the library, you have the full access to both "ends" (A and B in the terms of the datasheet) and the wiper of the potentiometer and can set that wiper to any 8 bit position between 0 and 255. Naturally this means that the minimum "step" is just shy of 40 ohms.
Do bear in mind the tolerance of +/-20% given above for at least the nominal resistance, that means that the "end to end" resistance could be as little as 8k, or as much as 12k, that is just the nature of the beast I'm afraid.
