These LDO voltage regulators, have a very low Quiescent Current, that means they do not take much current to run themselves, about 5 microamps (not milliamps, MICRO amps) making them great for “standby” on battery operated things that might operate infrequently (like, sensors).

Here are applicable Holtek datasheets, the first datasheet gives a max input of 12v and the second a max input of 30v, I can't tell you which parts I have, that varies time to time, assume it's the the lower.
