These LEDs emit a purple, sometimes called blurple, colour which is a mixture of Red and Blue wavelengths and commonly called “full spectrum” leds, for growing plants. They do not emit the green wavelengths which most plants generally just reflect (which is why plants are green).
These leds are often referred to as "3 Watt" by many sellers however personally I would run this type of LED at 1.5W (about 500mA) maximum for increased efficiency, life and reduced temperature.
Yes I have grown vegetables with these LEDs. You do need more light than you would think, for 3 leds I would not go over an area of maybe 15cm by 15cm at a distance of 20-30cm maximum, and preferably double that number of LEDs.
You must heatsink these leds, the LED mounting plates I sell work OK for this on thier own at about 300mA provided they are stuck to something substantial, doesn’t need to be metal, I have them stuck to the bottom of wooden shelves and it’s fine (using the double sided thermal tape I sell).
Don't forget to limit the current or you'll have 3 dead leds on your hands.
