These 0603 size LEDs are great for the miniature hobbiest's parts drawer, very very small… but with a steady hand and a keen eye you can still hand solder them, just. This is about the smallest size LED I would want to hand solder.

I don’t have a maximum recommended current, but I would shoot for about 20 mA maximum (most LEDs are happy around that).
Remember to use a current limiting resistor, no resistor = instantly destroyed LED in most cases.
The best and really only way to see if a specific LED (or indeed batch of LEDs) is bright enough for YOUR purpose, is to buy a few and try it out. Luckily, LEDs are just a few cents!
