Polyurethane Belt (PU Belt, also sometimes called conveyor belt, machine belt, drive belt) is really great stuff, it’s super easy to make a pretty decent joint without anything more than a source of heat, a lighter, a candle, a soldering iron, a hot air gun, whatever you have that you can get the ends hot with… just heat both ends and then smoosh them together holding them in place until the joint cools (takes about 30 seconds to a minute), makes for a very strong joint.
To clean up the joint you can either roll it on a surface while still hot (obviously don’t touch molten plastic), or just trim off the excess with snips or a blade once cold, and if you want you can buff the joint further by sanding, I use a drum sanding attachment for my dremel which makes short work of making the joint nice and smooth.
The joint is very strong if you got it smooshed good together, probably almost as strong as the rest of the belt.
This green belting has a slight texture to the surface for a little extra grip. There is a small ability to stretch, I think probably around 8-10%, joins tends to have a bit more stretch to the eye at least.
Exact shade of green will vary, there is sometimes some sort of darker marking on one side at regular intervals, probably manufacturing artefact, doesn’t appear to affect usage or strength,
Good for all sorts of things from sewing machines and clothes dryers to robots and kinetic sculpture.
